Enhance your overall mobility and performance with our Hip Mobility Workshop on Saturday, April 27th, from 10h00-12h00 EST @ the Roebuck Community Centre. Our interactive class will teach you how to improve your range of motion, flexibility, and strength around your hips through an understanding of anatomy and dynamic exercises, benefiting both fitness enthusiasts and those who spend long periods of time sitting or standing.
We will provide you with a virtual PDF booklet and talk through key concepts and basic anatomy, progress through a hip-focused yoga flow while tracking thoughts, opinions, sensations and dimensions (if desired), and close with free time so that you can capture a few photos of yourself (if desired).
Cost: CAD$40 + HST ($45.20)

Minimum Participation: A minimum of 7 people are required to run this workshop
The Background:
This hip flow is one that I developed in 2019 and it has become a regular part of my weekly routine. At the time, my career was taking an unproportionally large amount of time from my week. 04h30 mornings, late evening and weekend work were the norm. What time was left was dedicated to my family so my range of motion and strength took a neglected turn for the worst. I ended up with hip pain so severe it would wake me up at night. So, I had to take time and money away from moving forward and put it into physiotherapy, massage etc. sessions. My own personal return-on-investment balance had tipped.
That was when I committed to set a limit around my working hours and my self-availability to a more sustainable level. I’d always put in extra effort and do the best that I could, but not to the extent that my mobility would be impacted. To this day, I use this flow to determine how I am doing and stop and fix whatever needs fixing when I feel certain sensations so that long-term, I can keep going.
At first, it was difficult to make this transition. But it has led to a profoundly enjoyable, and soothing journey. It is surprising how much emotion we keep in our hips so there was a whole spiritual component to this commitment that I didn’t realize I was making and would benefit from for years to come. I was also surprised at how much more accessible daily activities and adventures were with healthier hips and all the really amazing people I would meet along the way. The focus on building harmony, resilience and body awareness instead of the aesthetics of poses and association of that to self-value transformed my ability to live life.
So, I wanted to make this flow accessible to others as well. It is a unique journey as we are all made up of different histories and body compositions. You do not have to have a destination (aka you don’t need to actually get into a split to be able to work on hip mobility). Simply working on it at your own pace will lead you to your own unique destination with it. It also benefits those striving for more balance, higher and stronger kicks, easier access to abdominal muscles, and more comfort in their ability to recover from slips (therefore prevent falling) etc. The benefits are endless and can’t be given a numeric value.
This session is an intro to go through the flow and assess our own unique baselines to think about and perhaps pick a few habits to begin working on altering. To start, we’ll talk about key concepts, and then go through the flow and just listen and see where we are at. We’ll provide a progress booklet that you can use to capture pictures, and add your baseline pose dimensions, thoughts and feelings to reflect on after. You’ll also get a flow cheat sheet so you can do it at home on your own time if you’d like. You’ll have time to share your own stories and thoughts should that be of interest.
If the currently organized date, time and/or location does not work for you but you are interested in participating and have a group of 6 or more people- You can request a private group session and we will work with you to set that up!
