Physical Prerequisites:
Must be able to sit comfortably on, and get up from the ground.
No current or history of back, shoulder, neck, hip, ankle, or any other injuries.
Smirlholm is an outdoor working farm therefore the ground is naturally uneven and there are tree roots, culverts, gravel passthroughs etc. that would normally be expected in such an environment. Please ensure you are comfortable in this type of setting.
Smirlholm is also a fully functioning apiary therefore there are bees out and about, and we will be working hands-on with flowers and foliage and surrounded by gorgeous wildflowers, soybeans, grasses, trees, alfalfa patches and other allergens. Please ensure you are comfortable working in and around bees, pollen, flowers, grasses, scents etc. (e.g. allergies).
Cancellation Policy:
Since this is an outdoor event, we will revert to our selected rain date (Saturday, July 27th) if:
Environment Canada issues either a special weather statement, watch, or warning for the area 24 hours in advance of the event date
an unfortunate unforeseen situation arises (e.g. fire, fallen trees, etc.)
The minimum number of registrants hasn’t been reached 75 hours in advance of the event date
In the unlikely event that the rain date also gets cancelled, all participants will receive a full refund.
About the Evening:
The evening will begin with a short (approximately 500 meter) walk down a gravel road that separates the growing sunflowers, bee hives, and barn from the soybean field from the parking to the event site. The team will greet guests at the event site to help you register and set-up for the evening. We will then spend about an hour and a half flowing with our partners and discovering the power of synchronized breathing and harmonizing body postures through a guided partner yoga, relaxation-focused yoga sequence. After, Ganden Gardens and Smokie Ridge Vineyard will provide a short introduction to the second portion of the evening. Couples/pairs will then be able to take their time to explore both of the Ganden Gardens interactive flower bar to create a unique and personalized bouquet as well as Smokie Ridge Vineyard’s handcrafted cocktails and locally brewed wine and beer bar.
This fun, interactive, designed for all levels experience is perfect for couples looking for an organic experience in unity with nature, the bees and create lasting memories together.

How this Event Materialized:
We first met Glenn a few years ago when we brought our children to Smirlholm Farm. We had the good fortune that day of getting a full overview, from Glenn himself, of the bee colony and farm itself. The passion and dedication given to this small, non-commercialized, sustainable apiary was so evident in the delivery of this overview that it transformed this single event into a memory we recall frequently. This farm personally oversees and carefully maintains all of their productive hives and the surrounding landscape that supports them. The result? Space available to take a short break away from commitments, demands, noisy notifications, and interruptions. The colour combinations of native Dundas wildflowers and the sound of them swaying in the breeze, the magnificent golden yellow of iconic sunflowers contrasted with their dark centers and the orange halo of the sunset, and the sight of the bees’ communicative dance as they forage in alfalfas, sweet clovers, sunflowers, and wildflowers to collect nectar and pollen produces both the most magnificent sweetness as well as an intensively welcome respite that is unforgettable. Although the sunflowers specifically won’t be in full bloom in time for this event, you will be able to see them as they begin to shoot into their budding state.
Fast forward a few years and, by chance, our families entwined again. This led to the discovery of the mutual interest to collaborate and provide a not yet experienced event in this dynamic community.
If the currently organized date, time and/or location does not work for you but you are interested in participating and have a group of 6 or more people- You can request a private group session and we will work with you to set that up!
